Accommodations:
The "Owner's Cabin"
One of our first guests described the “Owner’s Cabin” as “Caribbean Chic”. To begin, the cathedral ceiling offers an incredibly spacious ambiance. Each living area is defined by its hand crafted furniture, such as the “California” King Sized Bed with Toucan engraved headboard, Rattan Sofa with matching Rattan chairs that frame the uniquely shaped coffee table made of local “Kasha” wood. Because of its durability, Kasha was also used for the counters in both the fully equipped kitchen and the bathroom. Accents of Kasha, Laurel, Nespero and other local woods are seen throughout the décor. A large screened in patio with two Hunter ceiling fans and a hammock for two is secluded by hidden behind a row of tropical flowers and plants.
A Suite named “JOSE”
“Jose’s” private entrance and bamboo banister directs you to your own screened in patio. Simply furnished with table and chairs…and a hammock, this tropical living area is a great place to “hang out”. Through a glass door and wall of windows you will see this very comfortable air conditioned suite. Your accommodations consist of a Queen sized bed with quality linens, a kitchenette with full size refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, a dining table and DVD player with monitor. One step up and to the right and you’ll find your spacious bathroom with a hand painted toucan sink and a large shower where you can have a gorgeous view of the property…but no one has a view of you. Although air conditioned, the nights are usually cool enough to enjoy the wonderful cross ventilation this suite has to offer, and if necessary there’s always the ceiling fan.
A Suite named “Hose B”
“Hose B” has its own private entrance. This air conditioned suite has a King Sized Bedroom with windows that offer beautiful views of our property, its gardens, lawn, fruit trees and tropical foliage. The kitchenette which is equipped with a full size refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker is adjacent to your living/dining area. This room is furnished with a cushioned settee and matching chairs that surround a large glass top table. Additional windows offer more sunlight and garden views. The bathroom has a large shower and a hand painted toucan sink. Needless to say, with the abundance of windows, “Hose B” offers great cross ventilation…and the nights are usually cool enough to enjoy the fresh air sent by both mountains and the sea.
If the Caribbean isn’t too calm at night, and your windows are open, you can actually count waves instead of sheep.

Pura Vida
My words are my wealth with this start I'll propose
A sentimental reminder of what you should know,
That inside the cities where you can't see the sky,
Where money's the master and without it you die,
Dollars, and deadlines, competition, and greed,
Wasting time in a race to obtain the things we don't need,
So many are clueless, brainwashed, and lost,
Putting price tags on life, thinking happiness costs,
Down a detouring highway to this place I've been drawn
Beyond pictures and postcards mere words can't explain,
This magical mixture of sunshine and rain,
Pure life* at its best and it does'nt cost a dime,
My chains are now broken set-free heart and mind.
* Pura Vida means Pura Life .......Kayak Jack
Hello There!
I thought you might be interested in some background on our "Petite B&B, In a Garden, By the Sea"
The property was purchased in 2005, and in September of 2008, I hired a Swedish contractor to build my cabin. A spacious feeling along with modern amenities and above standard plumbing, wiring and insulation, were all requirements. The use of local exotic woods in both accents and furniture was also a MUST! The cabin was completed in December 2008.
Three months later, I offered the cabin to a couple I knew, for their honeymoon. I saw them a few weeks later, and they couldn't stop talking about how romantic and beautiful the cabin and grounds were. Soon afterwards, I was contacted by another couple who asked if I would rent the cabin to them. I did ,and they loved it too. They described it as "Caribbean Chic.". I took that as a compliment.
Retired, and traveling quite often, I decided to continue the practice of renting the cabin but only to couples who I knew would appreciate it. Thus, the play on words in the nameThe Toucan Stay Inn (But 3 Cant).
With the purchase of the property came an old 2 story wooden building about to collapse. It had once been a local favorite Italian restaurant called, Duende Feliz (Happy Elf). In November of 2009 the renovation began. Keeping the local look of the building on the outside, the interior took on drastic changes. Two suites, with private baths , were constructed on the second floor, and a lobby, caretakers quarters, office, kitchen, laundry room, bodega (storage room) and large garden covered terrace were completed on the first floor. We officially opened the Toucan Stay Inn on May 1, 2010. (To be truly honest, a week earlier, during Easter Week, a young couple from Alajuela needed a room, and we accommodated them during our final week of construction)
TSI now has separate accommodations for 3 couples, all enjoying their privacy. Each, with private entrances. Our Garden Terrace provides a place to renjoy your morning breakfast...or just relax and gather for a cocktail or just to lounge in a hammock.
With advanced booking, we now rent the ENTIRE INN to small families, or a group of Best Friends to enjoy the location, privacy and tranquility of The Toucan Stay Inn.F
Our Beach and Garden surroundings is a fantastic place for an "special" intimate Wedding...either on the beach (at the end of the street) or in our Garden/Lawn. Additional accommodations for a larger group of guests can be arranged nearby.
We hope you visit and share our "little piece of heaven" known as The Toucan Stay Inn (But 3 Cant)....(sometimes)
Pura Vida,
Jon Stierwalt
